Quelimane is a major city in the East African country Mozambique. It is the fourth-largest city in Mozambique with around 350,000 inhabitants. The city is a member of ICLEI’s EcoMobility Alliance and works actively on developing an African network of cities for the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI).
The Mayor of Quelimane Manuel de Araújo advocates for climate action in African cities and participates at UNFCCC processes and other relevant events. He strongly promotes the use of cycling in Quelimane, emphasizing their economic, social and environmental benefits. A waster project proposes the use of bicycles for the collection of organic waste.
