Uruguay incentivises electric vehicle acquisition
Uruguay’s Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) formally announced that it will grant economic incentives for the incorporation of 100 electric vehicles in high-use public transport activities. This includes taxis, applications, and remises from all over the country.
As of November 1, permit holders will be able to register for the MIEM’s financial support. The registration period to apply to be part of this initiative will be extended until December 31, 2023 or until the MIEM finishes granting the US$ 500,000 destined for this program. The subsidy will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis and there will be no preferences for any sector or area of the country.
Through this program, Uruguay is promoting the second energy transition in the country, which means advancing decarbonisation efforts and eliminating fossil fuels.
The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini; the Undersecretary, Walter Verri; and the National Director of Energy, Fitzgerald Cantero attended this important event.
