Outcomes from the Asian Pacific Climate Week
On 8 July, the TDA, together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the SLOCAT Partnership, co-organised the side event: Policies, measures and technologies to advance sustainable, low carbon transport.
The event focused on three main objectives
1)Determine the policy, technical and fiscal measures needed to accelerate the transition to sustainable, low carbon mobility in different regions in Asia-Pacific.
2)Outline the coordinated actions needed for the deployment of sustainable electric mobility
3)Raise the synergies and policies needed to establish a legislative framework to promote decarbonization and sustainable mobility in the region.
Ms. Stientje van Veldhoven inaugurated the event as keynote speaker. During her intervention, she highlighted the need for action on freight. ‘The TDA has a Community of Interest of Urban Freight where through the How to Guide that even if it’s a difficult subject, a transition it’s possible’. She remarked.
She said that collaboration across regions is crucial and expressed her satisfaction of having the Netherlands and Japan working together on transport decarbonisation initiatives nowadays. At the end of her intervention she took the chance to said that Involving developing countries has to be a priority, and that it is the reason why investment funds from the World Bank could make a difference.
