Alstom Hydrogen Train Achieves
a Historical Milestone

Alstom announced that the world’s first passenger train powered by hydrogen fuel cell, the Coradia iLint™, is now used on the world premiere 100% hydrogen train route. This zero-emission train emits low levels of noise, with the emissions being steam and condensed water.

On the route between Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervörde and Buxtehude in Germany, 14 hydrogen-powered Alstom regional trains will be operated by evb, gradually replacing 15 diesel trains.  With a range of 1,000 kilometres, the Alstom multiple units of the Coradia iLint™ model can run all day long on just one tank of hydrogen on the evb network.

For Alstom, transitioning to green mobility is key, and the company has centered its efforts to become the world leader in alternative propulsion systems for rail. Mr. Henri Poupart-Lafarge, CEO of Alstom, views the Coradia iLint™ as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to green mobility combined with state-of-the-art technology.

This development was also showcased at InnoTrans 2022  held on 20-23 September 2022 in Berlin, Germany,  reaffirming that making mobility greener, smarter, and more resilient is possible.

This major international trade fair for transport technology was a prime opportunity for manufacturers around the world to showcase their transport innovation products.
