British Columbia develops new green modes of transport

British Columbia is implementing a new Vision Zero grant program that includes supporting provincial climate change efforts. The goal is to shift residents to lower-carbon forms of transportation, such as walking, cycling, and micro-mobility, including e-bikes and scooters, plus making these modes safer and more attractive to use.

Vision Zero grants are provided by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to local governments, Indigenous governments and non-governmental organizations to help them plan projects that will improve the safety of roads in their communities and that also emphasize reduction of carbon emissions and air pollution from transportation.

Furthermore, increasing the accessibility of active transportation networks and other green modes of transportation will improve travel mobility, particularly for people in rural, remote and Indigenous communities who are particularly challenged accessing various destinations.
