Mr. Andreas Kammel
Vice President Alternative Drivetrains, Traton

Andreas Kammel is Vice President Alternative Drivetrains at TRATON, the mother organization of the commercial vehicle brands Scania and MAN in Europe, Navistar/International in the U.S. and VWCO in Brazil. He received his Master‘s in physics under Stephen Hawking in Cambridge and holds a PhD from a Max-Planck-Institute in Munich. Prior to joining in TRATON in 2017, he worked as an author as well as a consultant for McKinsey & Company.

Director of the Sustainable Freight Buyers Alliance, Smart Freight Centre

Rik Arends is the Director of the Sustainable Freight Buyers Alliance, a leading initiative of Smart Freight Centre. Together, we unite freight buyers and suppliers to track and reduce their logistics greenhouse gas emissions. In his capacity as Director, Rik works with the largest shippers in the world to accelerate their decarbonization in collaboration with their supply chain partners. Rik is trained as a civil engineer and has 10+ years of experience in sustainable transport in Europe and the Global South.

Managing Director of Policy, We Mean Business Coalition

Sophie Punte directs We Mean Business Coalition’s policy engagement strategy to bridge business climate action with supportive government policy worldwide. She has 25 years of sustainability and climate experience as head of NGOs Smart Freight Centre and Clean Air Asia, and with the United Nations and KMG, in both developed and developing countries.

Ms. Michelle buffington
Vehicle and Program Specialist, California Air Resources Board

Dr. Buffington oversees several initiatives at the California Air Resources Board that relate to mobile source emissions from farming practices. She began her career at CARB in 2007 developing the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, with a focus on biofuels and land use change. Over the last 6 years she and her team have focused on how to foster change in equipment turn-over and farming practices in order to improve air quality and reduce climate change impacts. This includes innovative incentives like the Funding Agricultural Replacement Measures for Emission Reductions (FARMER) Program, which has received over $300 million of funding over the last three years. Dr. Buffington received her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University, and her doctoral degree in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry from the University of California, Davis.

Mr. Ethan ElKind
Director of the Climate Program at CLEE, UC Berkeley

Ethan Elkind is the Director of the Climate Program at CLEE and leads the Climate Change and Business Research Initiative on behalf of the UC Berkeley and UCLA Schools of Law. He taught at the UCLA law school’s Frank Wells Environmental Law Clinic and served as an environmental law research fellow. He has a background in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), climate change law, environmental justice, and other environmental law topics. In 2005, he co-founded The Nakwatsvewat Institute, Inc., a Native American nonprofit organization that provides alternative dispute resolution services and support for tribal governance, justice and educational institutions. His book on the history of the modern Los Angeles Metro Rail system was published by University of California Press in January 2014. Ethan is also a regular host of the weekly call-in radio show “State of the Bay(opens in a new tab)” on the San Francisco NPR affiliate KALW 91.7 FM(opens in a new tab), airing Monday nights at 6pm PT.
