A cycle route project will connect Matosinhos and Porto

On 15 November 2021, the Municipality of Matosinhos signed a contract with the Environmental Fund for the construction of an inter-municipal cycle route, within the scope of the Portugal Cycling 2030 program. 

With this project, the Government intends to promote the use of bicycles as a form of mobility in urban areas, especially in commuting and in addition to the offer of public transport, favoring connections that allow reaching the greatest number of citizens.

According to Mr. João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Portugal’s Minister of Environment and Energy Transition the new bike lanes built will save between 23 thousand and 50 thousand tons of CO2. This initiative is a sign of the continuous efforts Portugal is making in favour of the reduction of carbon emissions objective.
