Michelin pioneers the field of the electric vehicle tire

Michelin became the official tire provider of the FIA Formula-E for the eighth consecutive year. In this upcoming season, the company will once again demonstrate its potential for innovation in the field of electric vehicle tires.

Formula E is more than just a racing series – it’s a battle for the future. All 24 radical Gen2 cars – powered by electricity – pave the way for the road cars of tomorrow, with the series acting as a competitive platform to test and develop the latest in electric technology. By pitting 11 of the world’s greatest manufacturers against each other on the city streets, Formula E promotes the adoption of sustainable mobility in city centers in a bid to combat air pollution and lessen the effects of climate change.

Thanks to its technological leadership in electric mobility, Michelin now offers tires suited to the specific needs of all-electric vehicles. The proof is in the Michelin Pilot Sport EV tire, suited to the new electric sports cars and resulting from the experience gained in Formula E. Thanks to its specific rubber mixture, the tire also helps increase a vehicle’s range by 60 km. The MICHELIN Acoustic technology also muffles resonance noise and allows for a 20% reduction in sound levels; a major benefit for electric cars given their silent engines.
