Managing Director of Policy, We Mean Business Coalition

Sophie Punte directs We Mean Business Coalition’s policy engagement strategy to bridge business climate action with supportive government policy worldwide. She has 25 years of sustainability and climate experience as head of NGOs Smart Freight Centre and Clean Air Asia, and with the United Nations and KMG, in both developed and developing countries.

 

Mr. Ben welle
Director of Integrated Transport and Innovation, ICCT’s Electric Vehicle Team, World Resources Institute

Ben Welle is a Director of Integrated Transport & Innovation at WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. Ben’s work includes leading global research and projects, particularly in sustainable transport, including public transport and freight, the informal sector, electric mobility, and walking & cycling. He has also authored numerous publications on national climate action and implementation in transport, road safety, and transport in economic recovery efforts. He currently also serves on the board of directors of SLOCAT. Ben has a Master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor’s degree from Hamline University, St. Paul, USA.

Mr. Ethan ElKind
Director of the Climate Program at CLEE, UC Berkeley

Ethan Elkind is the Director of the Climate Program at CLEE and leads the Climate Change and Business Research Initiative on behalf of the UC Berkeley and UCLA Schools of Law. He taught at the UCLA law school’s Frank Wells Environmental Law Clinic and served as an environmental law research fellow. He has a background in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), climate change law, environmental justice, and other environmental law topics. In 2005, he co-founded The Nakwatsvewat Institute, Inc., a Native American nonprofit organization that provides alternative dispute resolution services and support for tribal governance, justice and educational institutions. His book on the history of the modern Los Angeles Metro Rail system was published by University of California Press in January 2014. Ethan is also a regular host of the weekly call-in radio show “State of the Bay(opens in a new tab)” on the San Francisco NPR affiliate KALW 91.7 FM(opens in a new tab), airing Monday nights at 6pm PT.

Mr. Mark major
Senior Adviser, SLOCAT Partnership and Transport Decarbonisation Alliance

Mark Major specialises in transport and environment policy. He advises a number of organisations such as Environmental Defence Fund Europe, the SLOCAT Partnership and the Transport Decarbonisation Alliance. Previously Mark was Team Leader for Sustainable Urban Mobility for the European Commission based in Brussels and also negotiated for the EU the transport aspects in the UNFCCC, IMO and UNCSD multilateral processes. From 2003 – 2014 he was a Visiting Professor at the Chinese Academy of Transport Science (Ministry of Transport) in Beijing and has recently been working in Morocco, Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Mark has an MBA in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management (USA) and a Bachelor’s degree (with Honours) in Civil Engineering from Oxford Polytechnic (UK). Mark speaks English, French and Spanish and is based near Girona in the north of Spain.

Ms. Elisabeth Windisch
Policy Analysis, International Transport Forum

Elisabeth leads the policy analysis team at the International Transport Forum in Paris and supports the management of NDC-TIA’s India activities. Elisabeth focuses on workstreams of ITF’s Decarbonising Transport initiative and oversees projects focusing on transport decarbonisation pathways for the European Union, Latin America and emerging economies. Elisabeth joined the International Transport Forum in 2017 and previously worked in the private consulting sector, focusing on transport policy assessments for the European Commission.
