Support for e-bikes in British columbia
As part of the Clean BC Roadmap to 2030, British Columbia is encouraging “mode shifting” to energy-efficient active transportation, such as walking, cycling, or rolling using e-bikes, scooters, or other mobility devices. In 2021, the province removed the provincial sales tax from the purchase of e-bikes and e-trikes to provide people with more affordable active transportation options to get around their communities. In addition, programs like provincially-supported SCRAP-IT and the province’s Specialty-Use Vehicle Incentive (SUVI) provide rebates for e-bikes and other modes. SCRAP-IT can save eligible individuals up to $750 to replace eligible vehicles with zero-emission vehicles or other zero or low-emitting transportation mode options. And SUVI provides businesses up to $1,700 in rebates towards cargo e-bike purchases.
