TARGETS AND ACTIONS ON TRANSPORT DECARBONISATION

With its dual Deutsche Post and DHL brands, Deutsche Post DHL Group is the world’s leading mail and logistics company with a workforce of around 520,000 employees at locations in over 220 countries and territories worldwide.

As an industry leader in green logistics, Deutsche Post DHL Group has been taking social responsibility for the impact of its own business operations for many years. As early as 2008, the group became the first major logistics company to make a voluntary commitment to improving carbon efficiency by 30% over the 2007 baseline by the year 2020 (the goal was already achieved in 2016).

In March 2017 Deutsche Post DHL Group announced a new climate protection target – to reduce all logistic-related emissions to zero by the year 2050. Four interim targets were set for the year 2025: To increase carbon efficiency by 50% compared to 2007 levels, to improve the quality of life in urban areas through the use of clean pick-up and delivery solutions, to increase the proportion of sales incorporating Green Solutions to more than 50%, and to train 80% of company employees to become GoGreen specialists. Over and above this the Group joins with partners to plant one million trees every year.

BEST PRACTICES

  • Certified Program: Certify 80% of employees as GoGreen Specialists by 2025.
  • Clean pick-up and delivery: For the good of the environment and its customers, the company plans to operate 70% of its own first and last mile services with clean pick-up and delivery solutions by 2025. The backbone of the fleet is the StreetScooter, an e-van engineered and produced by the company itself, and electrically assisted cargo-bikes.
