TARGETS AND ACTIONS ON TRANSPORT DECARBONISATION

A strategic document aiming at providing general guidance and orientation for Luxembourg’s climate change policy up to 2030 and beyond is currently under preparation. It will also address the transition to a climate neutral transport sector and include among others the following guiding principles: Mobility needs will mainly be covered through public transport and active mobility; multimodality, carpooling, e-mobility based on renewable sources, as well as digitalisation and possibly autonomous driving are key factors regarding future individual transport needs.

A new mobility strategy (MoDu2) adopted in May 2018 sets a number of short term targets for 2025, such as increasing during the peak hours the average occupancy rate in private cars from 1,2 up to 1,5 passengers. In addition, higher modal splits for public transport as well as active mobility are set.
