TARGETS AND ACTIONS ON TRANSPORT DECARBONISATION

Rotterdam is continuously growing. Space is become more scare and the climate change has also forced the city to make smart choices.

Because of that, Rotterdam is working on an innovative approach to mobility and transport.

The Municipality is changing how the available space is allocated to different road users. This means more room for cyclists and pedestrians, and more room for living.

Rotterdam is raising awareness of various clean alternatives for car rides, such as electric shared vehicles and public transport.

To ensure that the unavoidable rides by car or truck are emission-free as well, the Municipality also have developed a special programme, the Approach on Zero Emission Mobility. Through this programme, the city of Rotterdam works to promote emission-free motorised transport. For example, the city is purchasing electric vehicles for its own fleet, and working together with the logistics sector to introduce a zero emission zone for city logistics by 2025. The city also encourages the development of zero emission delivery, public transport (electric busses) and electric car sharing. Rotterdam is rolling out a robust and efficient network of public charging points in the city and region to make the switch to emission-free transport feasible for all.
