TARGETS AND ACTIONS ON TRANSPORT DECARBONISATION
In the last decade, Uruguay has made strong progress in the transformation of its energy matrix, generating opportunities to orient ourselves, also from the transport sector, towards renewable energies.
Uruguay has carried out a structural transformation in its energy matrix, achieving in just 6 years that more than 90% of the energy generated comes from renewable sources. This achievement is based on a State policy initiated in 2010, which with a medium and long-term vision has promoted the incorporation of technology and private participation in power generation, and has allowed strong investments in infrastructure, including the completion of international electrical interconnection. In this way, Uruguay is today among the world’s leading countries in the production of energy from renewable sources and has achieved sovereignty, reliability and efficiency in energy generation.
